In fact, Alltech Serdán has been certified by Mexico’s Empresa Socialmente Responsable (ESR) as a socially responsible company. This prestigious endorsement requires companies to meet expectations in five pillars: quality of life for employees, business ethics, community involvement, environmental awareness, and corporate management.

Alltech Serdán earned ESR certification through a variety of programs and initiatives. Here are just a few:

• Thorough planning: The yucca planting areas, harvesting methods and cutting plans are determined through a sustainable management plan, following the regulations established by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) of Mexico. 
   
• Careful harvesting: Pre-cutting is carried out by forest management experts who make selective cuts from mature plants, minimizing the impact to the environment and the ecosystem. The yucca is then harvested, collected and stored carefully, to meet Alltech’s sustainability standards.
   
• Reforestation: For every yucca tree harvested, three trees are replanted. Alltech Serdán’s on-site nursery, with its capacity of over 200,000 yucca seedings, is essential for propagating and growing the number of plants required for reforestation — about 50,000 each year.
   
• Quality control: For each batch of Deo Pet and other Alltech yucca technologies, a sample is collected and sent to the laboratory for strict B50 quality control analysis. This ensures high quality and effectiveness.
   
• Work opportunities: Alltech Serdán is one of the largest facilities of its kind worldwide, employing about 200 people in steady jobs that help sustain the local economy. For instance, about 60 families in the area sustainably supply yucca plants for the facility — a skilled job due to the training it requires.
   
• Clean energy: Alltech Serdán has installed a photovoltaic solar energy system to produce renewable energy. The plant also uses compressed natural gas, which helps mitigate its environmental impact, reducing CO2 emissions.
   
• Community service: Alltech Serdán supports numerous community projects in Serdán, including several ongoing projects on behalf of local children. These include support for a local primary school; a school for children with special needs; and a children’s home called Casa Hogar.
